Sawaya Architecture is an interdisciplinary architectural firm specializing in urban redesign and innovative infill development.

Founded by Christopher Sawaya in 2015, our collaborative practice focuses on creating simple, purposeful, and economical designs. We are committed to delivering clean, modern architectural solutions that are both innovative and efficient.

We approach every project with a strong emphasis on integrating it thoughtfully into the surrounding neighborhood, while always prioritizing the needs and goals of the owner.

CHRIS SAWAYA
I'm a licensed architect with a deep passion for development and a lifelong connection to San Diego. Born and raised here, I earned my degree in architecture from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. I'm driven by a strong desire to think critically, solve complex problems, and bring thoughtful design concepts to life—from the earliest sketches to the final built form.

With extensive experience in modern architecture and real estate development, I've completed a wide range of multifamily residential and mixed-use projects. My approach is rooted in clean lines, functional design, and a strong sensitivity to context—always aiming to balance the design vision with practical and economical execution. I can see the design process from a developer's perspective, ensuring that every project is not only functional and beautiful but also practical and buildable.

CHRISTIAN CARPENTER
With a lifelong passion for architecture that began in grade school, I have dedicated myself to creating inspiring and enduring spaces. At just 17, I started gaining real-world experience working in an architect's office, a journey that fueled my commitment to design excellence.

I earned my Bachelor of Architecture degree as Valedictorian from the NewSchool of Architecture & Design in San Diego, blending academic achievement with a genuine love for innovative design. My expertise spans high-end custom residential projects, multifamily developments, and mixed-use communities, with experience practicing across Southern California, Reno, Lake Tahoe, and the Bay Area.

Before joining the Sawaya team, I contributed to an award-winning firm, leading exceptional projects from concept to completion. I am passionate about collaborating with project teams to deliver designs that sustain, support, and enhance the well-being of their users. Outside of architecture, I cherish my role as a father to two boys and thoroughly enjoy being actively engaged with them in our community.
